Croatia Still Wondering After... · November 07, 2012
Pope Benedict XVIand the prime minister of Croatia, Zoran Milanovic met at the Vatican on October 29, 2012. The prime minister also met with the Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone and Archbishop Dominiqe Mamberti, the Vatican Secretary for Relations with States. The meeting was held on the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Vatican and Croatia, which commemorated 13 centuries of Croatian “fidelity to the Gospel and to the Successor of Peter” even under difficult circumstances, according to the Vatican.
The Vatican communiqué said that the meeting discussed a range of topics including Croatia’s intention to become a full member of the European Union, which the Vatican supports, the challenges of the current economic crisis, the circumstances of Croatians living in Bosnia and Herzegovina Roman Catholic property in Croatia, etc.
The Vatican is very concerned about the Balkans because of the conflicts there. Croatia is a strategically located, primarily Roman Catholic country with a long history of connection to the Habsburg dynasty, which, since 1527 kept the nation in the grip of Rome.
Mamberti gave a speech at the commemoration, which underlined the close and intense historical ties between Croatia and the Vatican dating back to 879. He also pointed out how Croatia’s Catholic identity has shaped the nation and made it one of Europe’s original nations.
Speaking of the intense relationship is revealing. Croatia, during World War II was so intensely Catholic that it persecuted non-Catholic Serbs by extermination, which amounted to genocide, mass murder and ethnic cleansing (estimates of between 340,000 and 500,000 Serbs were exterminated), expulsions (250,000), and forced religious conversions (200,000), all carried out by the infamous Ustase regime with the cooperation and approval of Roman Catholic clergy. Croatian zeal for the church virtually knew no bounds. It was very intense indeed.
Revelation 18:13 says that the “merchants of the earth work with Babylon to deal in the “souls of men.” Verse 9 says that the kings of the earth, have “committed fornication and lived deliciously with fallen Babylon also. The prime minister’s visit reveals that the rulers of Croatia and the Vatican still believe in the close and intense ties between the Vatican and the nation state of Croatia.
