Junk Food

A diet including unlimited amounts of junk food can cause rats to become so addicted to the unhealthy diet that they will starve themselves rather than go back to eating healthy food, researchers have discovered. In a series of studies conducted over the course of three years and published in the journal Nature Neuroscience, Scripps Florida scientists Paul Johnson and Paul Kenny have shown that rats’ response to unlimited junk food closely parallels well-known patterns of drug addiction — even down to the changes in brain chemistry. How Junk Food Makers Get Us Hooked

In 2010, New York Times investigative reporter Michael Moss took on the meat industry, earning a Pulitzer Prize for his work. Now the food industry sleuth has set his sights on the junk food business. His book on the topic, “Salt Sugar Fat: How the Food Giants Hooked Us,” will be published by Random House this month. It all began when the reporter was investigating a surge in E.coli outbreaks in meat when an industry source told him that the even bigger public health hazard was what companies were intentionally adding to their products, starting with salt. He looked, he was shocked, he wrote a book. And his findings are nothing short of depressing.   Read More >>

Drink Milk? Udder Propaganda

We have turned cows into perpetual milk makers, pushing them well beyond their natural limits. Not only does this harms the cows, but by consuming their milk we put ourselves in harms way as well. Humans have made the cow a modern factory—a perpetual milk machine. Three thousand years ago, a cow gave approximately 200 pounds of milk in a year. Today, the modern cow gives more than 15,000 pounds of milk, 75 times as much. And this over-production is causing more diseases in cows (as well as humans). In fact, 89% of cows today have the bovine leukemia virus. Read More >>

The Danger of Eating Pigs

Eating pork produces scrofula, leprosy, & cancer. Do you know what scrofula is? It is sometimes referred to as "The King's Disease or the King's Evil". Scrofula is a form of tuberculosis affecting the lymph nodes, especially of the neck. In old times Kings would get this disease in the lymph nodes because they were eating lots of pork! Read More >>

Refined Grains

Wheat is the key ingredient in the American diet. But after being milled, it is seldom utilized in its whole form with its components intact. Invariably, when we eat wheat, we get it in the form of bread, pies, cakes, cookies, biscuits, spaghetti, cream of wheat, cereals, and other forms that have been treated, heated, fractioned, and fragmented until it is next to impossible to recognize it for what it was . . . Babylon and Burger King

Now, let's talk about food. How important is what we bite, sip, nibble, and snack on? The answer is: more important than we realize. No doubt you've heard the famous expression, "You are what you eat." It's true. What we place into our mouths, stomachs, and intestines is eventually transformed into our bones, blood, and brains. Are there reasons why heart attacks, stroke, cancer, diabetes, and autoimmune disease fatalities are skyrocketing? Read More >>

Sugar—Affecting the Body and Mind

Refined sugar is addictive, destructive, and devoid of any nutritional value. Why does it continue to be a staple food across the world? Soft Drinks and Osteoarthritis

Soft drinks are not just associated with being overweight or obese. Researchers have discovered that consumption of soft drinks is associated with osteoarthritis in men. The study included 2000 men and women with osteoarthritis of the knee. Men who drink soda have a greater risk that “their arthritis will progress and cause more pain.”   Read More >>

Genetically Modified Foods

Since genetically modified or engineered foods (GM, GE, GMOs) are pervasive in our food supply, it is wise to ask, what are they? Are they essentially the same as non-GM foods? And since humanity faces a global economic and food-supply crisis, do genetically modified crops live up to claims of safety, productivity, and profitability? Read More >>

The Big GMO Cover-up

Big biotech claims that genetic engineering is a necessary step towards feeding the world's growing population. And yet debate still rages as to whether GM crops actually increase yields at all. Furthermore, the UN recently stated that 30,000 people a day were starving to death, but not because of underproduction of crops. It's simply through lack of access. Read More >>
